花粉症は春だけの問題ではありません。日本では秋にも花粉が飛びます。おもな原因はブタクサやヨモギ、カナムグラという草です。ブタクサの花粉は八月の中ごろから十月の中ごろまで飛び、九月にいちばん多くなります。関東では八月の終わりから九月にかけて特に増えます。スギの花粉は遠くまで飛びますが、ブタクサは背が低い草なので、花粉は数メートルから数十メートルしか飛びません。つまり、川原や空き地に近づかなければ、症状は軽くなります。ブタクサの花粉は粒が小さくて、のどや気管支まで入りやすいです。そのため、せきやのどの痛みが出て、かぜとまちがえる人もいます。外に出るときはマスクとめがねをして、帰ったら顔と手を洗いましょう。洗濯物は部屋の中に干すと安心です。
